“Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.””
Mark 9:21-23 NIV
In this story about the demon possessed boy, his father asks Jesus, “but if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us”. It was the “if” that questioned Jesus’ ability to help, to heal, to free this boy from the demons that held him hostage. Jesus draws attention to the father’s doubt, repeating what he just heard him say… “If you can?” I can almost hear the emphasis on the “if”. He responds quite matter of factly, stating, “Everything is possible for the one who believes.” It’s choosing to believe that God can and will instead of thinking that He can’t and won’t. It’s deciding to dump doubt and find fervent faith. It’s not easy especially when enduring challenging circumstances, but who else but God can…
Shine light on the darkest night
Give a blind man back his sight
Heal disease and restore life
Mend what’s broken, ending strife
Lead you out of pain and trouble
Restore what’s lost and give you double
Chase after you when you’re on the run
Rewrite your story when you think it’s done
Give you peace in the harshest storm
Sit beside you when you feel forlorn
Create beauty from a horrible mess
Calm your fears when you’re beyond stressed
Ease your burdens when you give them to Him
Let you start over and be born again
Show you what true faithfulness is
Truly see you and claim you as His
Perform miracles before your eyes
Speak the truth to the devil’s lies
Use what hurt you as only He could
Work everything together for your good
Command time to align with His will
Ask us to know He is and be still
Bring back and resurrect the dead
Do each and every thing He said!
There’s nothing that He cannot do
There is no mountain He cannot move
When we believe, we must understand…
Everything is possible with the One who can!
