Guided by Goodness

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations
Psalms 100:5 NIV

When I was a kid, I loved finding wooly bears. They were a sign that winter was coming and were supposed to predict how long and cold of a winter we would get. Living in New England, there are a few “predictors” of the coming weather. People look to the Old Farmer’s Almanac for a future forecast. And depending on the position of El Niño, we might not get much of a winter at all. But, let’s face it, there may be folklore or future forecasts, but weather is unpredictable and changing…as is life in general. We want to see signs and predict the future, when one thing is truly predictable and reliable: God is good.

Life throws you curve balls, whether it be in work, relationships, health, or just in figuring out how to handle each day. We need to consult with the One who is constant. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 NIV

It’s not easy to live in a state of limbo or to rest in a shaky reality, but God is good…always has been, is right now, and always will be. He is good through the storm and good when we can’t see the outcome. He is good when people aren’t, and can work all things out for the good of those who love and look to Him. May we dwell in that defining character. May we grasp onto God’s goodness and let it guide us forward in faith.
