Commanded and Called

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:36-40 ESV

It's hard to do what God commands
To love your neighbor where they stand
Even when they stand in hate
It's love they need...it's not too late

We are not called to hate each other
To seek to hurt or kill a brother
Just because we don't agree
It shouldn't lead to evil deeds

When we believe in Christ we must show love
And ask for grace from above
Because everyone is God's own child
Who he died to save and is worthwhile

You can't cast out darkness except with light
And only the sun will end the night
So let's keep asking for help to show
Love and mercy, and share what we know

That Jesus Christ is the only way
The truth, the life, the One who saves
He is the giver of perfect peace
And cares for you with a love so deep

Lord, help us to be your hands, your feet
That walk the talk and in love, may we speak
Sharing your message and heeding your call
For you died not for the few, but for all.
