Heard and Helped

1 John 5:14 ESV

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

Luke 11:10 ESV

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Psalms 28:7 NIV

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

I’m not the best at asking for help.  I’ve been told that I am quite independent. In fact, as a little kid, I used to say, “Me do!” in nearly every situation so that I could try to do things on my own without any assistance. This, of course, led to a few semi-catastrophic events. One time, I wanted to try to drink soda out of a bottle. Instead of sipping from the top, I put my whole mouth over the opening and tipped the bottle back fast before I even knew what to do next. You guessed it…soda everywhere. And there were other comical events in my life like the time I shouldn’t have tried to use a ladder without assistance to remove ice dams from my gutters. Thankfully, there was about 4 feet of snow to soften my fall.

Full disclosure, I’m still stubbornly independent at times and reluctant to ask others for assistance. Yet, I’m trying to ask God for His help more in my life. He hears our prayers. I’m still amazed at how he hears every single one from each of us, but He does. And not only does He hear our prayers and cries, but we receive what we need when we ask, we find what we need when we seek Him, and He opens the door when we knock! God wants us to pray to Him for our needs because He is there to answer and help!

Asking for help is hard, but what is harder is trying to do things on your own. In seasons of uncertainty, change, conflict, weakness, or anytime, our Father in Heaven wants us to seek Him out, knock on the door, and receive His help. He is ready and willing to give. Make the asks and allow your heart to trust that He wants to hear and help YOU!
