Overflowing

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NIV

Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. The layers of petals seem endless and each flower is full of beautiful delicate ruffles. It’s like God couldn’t help but make this flower overflow with beauty. 

In this life, we are always looking to ourselves to be more than enough…strong enough to handle anything, smart enough to figure out everything, able enough to be everything for everybody. But as we all know, it is not possible to look to ourselves to be more than enough. But God is our “more than enough” God who wants us to lean on Him. He can fill you with his power to the point of overflowing. This passage holds so much truth about who God is and made me realize how much I need Him to fill me with what only He can provide as I trust in Him for all things. As the God of hope, he wants to lavish upon us a hope that is overflowing. He wants to fill us with joy and peace. Don’t we all need more of each of those things in our lives?  

The key, of course, is surrendering. But the same God who created the intricate and awe inspiring peony is the same God who will fill you up to the point of overflowing with peace and joy as you trust in Him. The peony is only here for a season but God’s beauty can unfold in your life each day as you look to Him to bestow his bounty and fill you up to face anything with faith.
